Effective eCommerce content strategies for today's customer
Techniques to improve your product, blog and general website content strategy.

It’s proven that rewarding your customers dramatically increases your chances of retaining them long-term.

However, for many retailers, launching a loyalty program has been easier said than done. The technology has either been inaccessible or reliant on third-party plugins that don’t fully integrate with their retail operations.

That’s why we built Loyalty System functionality directly into Venditan Commerce, enabling a fully integrated loyalty program without the usual technical hurdles.

The Rise of Loyalty Programs in the UK

Loyalty programs have become an integral part of the UK retail landscape, with their popularity soaring in recent years. As of 2025, the UK's loyalty market is projected to grow by 14.6%, reaching approximately £2.56 billion. This growth underscores the increasing importance retailers place on customer retention strategies.

Major players like Tesco have been at the forefront of this trend. In 2019, Tesco revamped its Clubcard scheme by introducing 'Clubcard Prices,' offering members exclusive discounts on selected products. This shift from a 'rewards later' (points-based) to a 'rewards now' approach has significantly boosted Clubcard usage and helped Tesco maintain its market share amidst growing competition from discounters.

Similarly, McDonald's launched 'MyMcDonald's Rewards,' allowing customers to earn points for every penny spent, which can be redeemed for free menu items. This points-based system incentivises repeat purchases and enhances customer engagement by offering tangible rewards.

These examples highlight that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to loyalty programs. The most effective technologies should offer flexibility, enabling businesses to tailor their loyalty initiatives to align with their unobjectives and customer preferences. Whether it's immediate discounts, point accumulation, or exclusive member benefits, a versatile loyalty platform allows retailers to design a program that resonates best with their audience.

Venditan Commerce Loyalty System

With the rise of loyalty programs shaping the retail landscape, the key to success is flexibility—being able to run a scheme that aligns with your business goals and customer expectations.

That’s exactly what the Venditan Commerce Loyalty System offers.

Built directly into the platform, the system supports multiple types of flexible loyalty programs, allowing you to choose the model that best suits your needs:

  • Points-Based Loyalty: Reward customers for their purchases by allowing them to accumulate points based on their spending, which can then be redeemed against a future purchase, similar to the ‘Advantage Card’ experience offered by Boots.
  • Preferential Pricing: Offer loyalty customers special pricing on selected products, similar to the successful 'Tesco Clubcard.'
  • Delivery Subscription: Provide customers with unlimited free delivery for a recurring subscription fee, similar to Amazon's 'Prime' model.

Read on to explore each of these loyalty program types in more detail and how you can manage them within Venditan Commerce.

Points-Based Loyalty Program

Allow your customers to accumulate points with every qualifying purchase, giving them a compelling reason to return and spend more with your business.

With Venditan Commerce, you have full control over how points are earned and redeemed, ensuring the system aligns with your retail strategy.

Qualifying Purchases

You decide what counts towards point accrual:

  • Set specific products or categories as eligible for earning points.
  • Allow or exclude discounted/promotional products.
  • Require a minimum basket total before points can be accumulated.

Point Multipliers

The system uses a multiplier to determine how points are awarded:

  • Set a base conversion rate, e.g. 1 point per £1 spent.
  • Offer temporary points boosts by changing the multiplier periodically to incentivise purchases.
  • Differentiate point generation by Customer Type, allowing for tiers of customers earning points at different rates.

Omnichannel Support

Venditan Commerce’s Loyalty System can run across all your sales channels, and this is the recommended approach for a cohesive omnichannel experience. However, you can restrict loyalty earnings to a specific channel—such as online only or in-store only—if preferred.

Redeeming Points

Customers can use their saved points in different ways, depending on your configuration:

  • Directly at checkout—applied as a discount to an order, either online or in-store.
  • Converted into an E-Voucher for future use, either manually at the customer’s discretion or automatically when a threshold is reached.

Expiry & Customer Engagement

To prevent points from sitting unused, you can set expiration dates and enable automated reminders, prompting customers to return and redeem them before they expire.

Who This Suits

A points-based system is ideal for high-frequency retail businesses such as the fast fashion industry, perishable goods, and beauty products. Regular purchases become habitual when customers know they are consistently earning towards a reward.

Preferential Pricing

Offer exclusive discounts to loyal customers based on predefined criteria. This incentivises repeat business by offering better prices to valued customers while maintaining standard pricing for the general public.

Customer Types & Tiering

Venditan Commerce allows you to categorise customers into tiers using its Customer Type functionality within the Venditan Commerce CRM. These tiers can be structured based on your business model and engagement goals, including:

  • Total Account Spend – Automatically assign customers to tiers based on their rolling spend over a set period, with automatic upgrades and downgrades.
  • Membership Subscriptions – Offer different pricing tiers based on a paid membership model, similar to Amazon Prime or VIP customer clubs.
  • Manual VIP Selection – Create a VIP tier for select customers that you manually assign at your discretion.

Price Rules by Customer Type

Once customers are assigned to a Customer Type, you can implement preferential pricing through price rules, such as:

  • Flat percentage discounts, e.g. 5% for Bronze, 10% for Silver, 20% for Gold.
  • Fixed price overrides on selected products.
  • Discounts only on specific categories or brands.

Product Eligibility Controls

With Venditan Commerce, you have full control over which products receive preferential pricing. You can:

  • Enable or disable discounts on groups of products, e.g. Brands, Categories, Departments, Seasons or combinations.
  • Exclude specific products from preferential pricing.
  • Choose whether discounted or sale items qualify.

Automatic Price Updates & Display

The system ensures a smooth customer experience with:

  • Automatic price updates when a customer logs into their account online.
  • The ability to show preferential prices as a standalone price or a discounted price against the standard rate, depending on your configuration.
  • Real-time updates, ensuring accurate pricing across all sales channels.
  • In-store compatibility; preferential pricing could be displayed on shelf-edge labels or automatically applied at checkout.

Who This Suits

Preferential pricing works well for both B2C and B2B businesses. For retailers targeting a broad customer base, it provides a simple yet effective way to reward loyal shoppers.

For B2B or trade businesses, it’s particularly valuable for offering tiered pricing to different customer segments based on their account spend or business status, ensuring your best customers receive the best deals.

Delivery Subscription Loyalty

A delivery subscription loyalty program is a great way to offer customers a premium service in exchange for a recurring subscription fee. This model not only rewards loyalty but also encourages customers to commit to your brand with a small upfront investment.

Subscription Fee & Sign-Ups

To get started with your Delivery Subscription Loyalty program, customers can sign up for the membership and make a one-time payment directly on your website. The process is simple, and once they’ve subscribed, the system automatically updates their account for full visibility.

Here's how it works:

  • Customers can easily sign up for the delivery membership directly on your website.
  • Set up the subscription as a product, with payments handled through the integrated payment gateway.
  • Once subscribed, the subscription fee is reflected in the customer’s account for full visibility.
  • After signing up, customers are automatically moved to a new Customer Type to enable their access to the exclusive delivery service.

Delivery Service Setup

Venditan Commerce’s Shipping Management System allows you to:

  • Set up new delivery methods specifically for your loyalty subscribers, offering premium delivery options like free or expedited shipping.
  • Use shipping rules to ensure these services are only available to customers who match the specific Customer Type for delivery subscribers.
  • Add additional rules, such as:
    • Minimum order value to qualify for free delivery.
    • Restrictions on delivery for specific tagged products or categories.

Automatic Offer at Checkout

Once the customer is logged in and has access to the delivery subscription, they will automatically be presented with the premium delivery option at checkout—provided the product meets eligibility criteria. This ensures a smooth, hassle-free experience for customers, making it easy for them to access their benefits with minimal effort.

Who This Suits

A delivery subscription loyalty program is ideal for fashion, beauty, and purely online e-commerce businesses where fast and convenient delivery is a key driver of customer satisfaction. This model encourages repeat purchases by offering customers the incentive of free or premium delivery, making it especially valuable in industries where regular orders are common and the cost of delivery can be a barrier to sales.
